An Unexpected Treat!

In December, I went to my granddaughter’s ballet recital – Coconut Cracker – in Americus, GA. It was a “take off” of the traditional Nutcracker with a tropical theme. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing Reese perform with all of the other participants, as well.

This is Reese with my mom, after the performance with her bouquets of flowers!

Of course, she was absolutely fabulous with her 2 dance routines and she really enjoyed being on the stage at the Rylander Theater. She will be a dancer for years to come, I do believe….

Because I had to get my mom and me in there a little early with her wheelchair accessibility, we had some time to “kill” while sitting there in the theater. I started looking around at the wonderful details in the architecture there and pulled my camera out of my purse so that I could share with you, too! The lighting was ready for a performance, so bear with me and the photography. I think I did pretty good, considering….

The vaulted ceiling is beautiful and highlight the moldings even more, but I decided to give you the up close versions above as well as this overall look at the ceiling.

These panels were in the theater too – used as accents.

Take another look – at all of the details, even the EXIT sign looks awesome, doesn’t it?

These 2 pictures are a little bit blurry, but you can see the awesome details around the balcony area that really got my attention! I couldn’t leave these out…..

THIS is a close up of the seating end caps. JUST AWESOME details and I didn’t get them all! If you have a chance to go to this theater, it’s worth the visit to see the theater, the performance is just icing on the cake!

DAWG Days….

My husband, David, and I both have birthdays in November. WE scored big on GO DAWGS gear this year for Birthdays and Christmas~ IF you have any clue about us and UGA football, you know that we bleed red and black! We do love football and especially our GA Dawgs!

And Hairy Dawg met us for a picture moment at the GA pregame festivities….

Check out David’s new toaster, complete with the G logo! We have to brand the bread even before a grilled cheese sandwich is complete!

AND he got a GA rain gauge and we got a new GA accessory in metal, to be hung up yet, for our screen porch I am thinking….

How do you like my new accessories? My girlfriends know what I like!

THANKSGIVING in Your Home?

If your family is like our family, we do revisit many of our traditions with the THANKSGIVING meal with good ole favorites ….. the traditional Turkey and Dressing with all of our favorites accompaniments, such as Sweet Potato Soufflé , Broccoli Casserole, Squash Casserole, Pecan Pie, and other homemade goodies. The Dressing is a Family Favorite that has been “the recipe” and passed down to my sister and me, from Mama’s recipe collection. I showed Noah the little booklet that dates back to the early 70’s for this traditional THANKSGIVING Treat when we were grocery shopping! You should have seen his eyes get big at the idea of using this “ancient recipe”! HA!

Our family’s traditions probably revolve more around the food and menu than anything else. I often wonder about families traditions, through the eyes of Hollywood, with the well dressed families sitting at a table with the silver, crystal and fine china. We have never celebrated Thanksgiving in a formal manner, but more of a family style feeling with lots of casual comfort in our day…. We did try celebrating Thanksgiving one year at the beach, with the dressing of course as part of the menu, with a seafood flair. We all enjoyed it and the change, but that was about 10 years ago and we haven’t repeated that tradition again…… yet.

What is Thanksgiving?

It’s a time to reflect on what we are thankful for…. Don’t you think? We are GIVING THANKS for many things…..

It may that you are grateful for a beautifully bright oasis for retreats in your Master Bedroom or perhaps for your guests in the Guest Bedroom!
Or you may be grateful and thankful for the memories….. Adding a little nostalgia is important – making a framed collage of keepsakes is an excellent way of displaying those important pieces.
OR are you very grateful and thankful for the Grandchildren coming to visit and you are ready with a great KIDS ZONE in your home with their needs in mind…. What a great use of space!
OR are you grateful and thankful for your fabulous Screen Porch that offers a sanctuary to you for your morning coffee, your quiet reading spot, or enjoying the sounds of nature while swinging in your fabulous swing! OR maybe even a nice oasis for the pets to lounge….
OR you are so grateful and thankful to have your little “princess” enjoying her fabulous retreat with sweet dreams in shades of Pinks and Yellows, her favorite colors, and her custom bedroom fun is “just for her”….
OR you are so very grateful and thankful for storage space and for the best organized closet of all! With everything in order in your closet, your life is in order too. Sweet Dreams can be found here, too!

Time for a Tune Up!

One of my design projects involves a Guest House that has started to evolve over the last few months…..

Notice the old antique chairs in the picture around the farm house table? The old leather is literally peeling off the chairs and the old stuffings were visable. They have been reconditioned and reupholstered now….along with other chairs in the room. Several changes to

update the interiors with new rug placement, more entertaining additions, and storage needs are being addressed, too.

We have changed the floor from a laminate type wood floor to natural slate……quite the change in look and function for this very earthy interior. (look at the before and after shots) It made the room feel bigger, just in the beginning stages….. And we changed out the sliding glass doors to more functional and energy efficient French doors!

The floors were also sealed to protect them for years…. there are several new products on the market that are more user friendly too for sealing your natural stone too. Aren’t they beautiful?

AND we are making some changes in furniture arrangement. New flat screened TV has been added instead of the old BIG black TV that was ugly and now my cabinet maker is working his magic to make this “black hole” more appealing and functional! More pictures to follow in the near future with an update…..

We are looking at using this beautiful bar stool in stead of the old “Captain Chair” stools that are currently at the antique bar….. it will be a breath of fresh air and these are comfortable and swivel! NICE….

This update has made some very noticeable changes and we are still hard at work! I’ll update you again soon….

Luxurious Footsteps ~

We started talking about replacing the stair carpet last year at Christmas time, but a few steps had to happen first…..in the right order to work for the client’s lifestyle and daily routines.

1. It was a goal to change up the look of the Foyer. But other areas were also affected with the floor covering and the stain color of the floors, the stair treads, and the handrail. So we decided to address all the areas at the same time.

2. Wall to wall carpet was removed in the upstairs areas as well as the downstairs. Hardwood was installed and a deep, rich stain was applied to the wood, new and old to unify the areas. You can see the difference in the stain here…

We had replaced the light fixture last year with this magnificent addition, replacing the "typical" brass traditional one that had hung there.

3. We selected a carpet for the stairs to really make a statement, and we decided that the 4×6 rug that had been here for years, should be moved up to the Guest Bedroom and this is the new rug to coordinate with our carpet. Another rug was selected to be used at the landing at the top – both to coordinate better with the ebony backgrounds. The floors in the Foyer are marble.

Now the accessories and the black finishes pop with this beautiful wool carpet....

Rich ebonies, luxurious steps....what a transformation~

A few more changes in the Foyer and we’ll be ready for Christmas decorating again soon.

Pull Up a Seat and Sit a Spell…

With the Fall temperatures in the air and the leaves beginning to turn into its familiar color palette that warms our days and hearts, it’s time to think about the entertaining months on our calendars!

Yes, the HOLIDAYS are just around the corner! Can you believe it? Several clients are getting their homes ready for the arrival of family, friends dropping in, and entertaining opportunities galore.

It’s a good time to realize and maybe even begin to assess and evaluate your needs for a successful FALL, ushering in the HOLIDAY season in your home. I have found that the overwhelming vision is on the conversation and entertaining areas – the place where your guests will “sitting for a spell”. It’s important to make these areas WORK and function for you correctly….

Do you have sitting areas to accommodate you and your guests?
Have you evaluated your conversation areas for function and ambience?
Do you have adequate tabletop space?
Does your “gathering area” accommodate your family needs and organization on a daily basis as well?
Have you attended to the details with comfort as well as visual appeal?

A pair of stools works great for an added seating option that doesn’t require a lot of space. They can be placed in an open side of the conversation area, in front of the fireplace, or in front of a window or sizable piece of furniture/built-in.

For example, I placed a fabulous pair of red square stools at a client’s home at the foot of their Master bed for extra seating. BUT, it is also very nice that these same stools can float as a pair in the Sun Room for extra seating or in front of the fireplace in the Family Room. They are versatile as well as dynamic in design!

These fabulous leather stools can work very similarly –

If you prefer a large ottoman for extra seating in your conversation area, you might want to consider extra options too. Does the ottoman offer you extra storage inside for “hiding” your stuff (or even bedding, if it’s accompanying a sofa bed), maybe a shelf for your magazines stacks, or is it tightly upholstered enough to work as a table for a large tray? It can serve as an extra seat as well as a table! A multi-tasking ottoman~

There are also smaller ottomans that have storage space for hiding the kids “toys” or your messy paperwork. They are awesome~

Are your “tabletops needs” met for your conversation areas? It is important to remember the surface spots for your “drink glass” and appropriate lighting needs for your seating areas too! I love lamps so much more than overhead lighting in the conversation areas. Don’t you? Of course a great chandelier over your Dining Room table or your Breakfast Room table is an important detail too!

AND the Comfort Zone is important as well. You certainly want your seating – your chairs, your sofa – comfortable as well as functional and fabulous in design. Add additional comfort to your seating with great accent pillows!

Can’t you just smell the pumpkin bread in the oven? Hear the crackling of the fire warming the Family Room? See your guests “oo-ing and ah-ing” over your fabulous new additions? Taste the chocolate torte dessert and coffee after a fabulous dinner?

Start making your design choices NOW…..time’s a wastin’! Company’s a comin’ and you gotta be ready! Let’s get to fixin’ your house for the Holidays!

PDI (Plumbing Distributers, Inc.) has opened a new resourceful location in Roswell and I attended their GRAND event last night~

Crystals of all types were very much so a theme in plumbing and lighting fixtures……

Beautiful crystal chandeliar is front and center....

Crystal handles are "hot" with the fixtures!
